Four generations on these waters

A Fourth-Generation Tradition on Florida’s Nature Coast

The Homosassa River and the surrounding waters of Florida’s Nature Coast have been home to the Toney family for four generations. Captain William Toney grew up on these flats, creeks, and oyster bars, learning the tides and seasons from his father and grandfathers before him. Today, he carries on that tradition as a full-time inshore fishing guide, sharing the waters he knows better than anyone with anglers from around the country.

When you fish with Captain Toney, you’re not just hiring a guide. You’re stepping into a living piece of Homosassa’s heritage. From poling across shallow grass flats to sight-casting at tailing redfish, every trip draws on decades of accumulated local knowledge passed down through his family and sharpened through thousands of days on the water.

What You Can Expect on the Water

Captain Toney’s primary targets include redfish, seatrout, snook, cobia, tripletail, and inshore grouper, though the Nature Coast is full of surprises and any trip may produce mangrove snapper, sheepshead, black drum, tarpon, and more depending on the season. He fishes aboard a custom-built 23′ Tremblay flats boat, purpose-designed for the shallow draft waters around Homosassa, with room for up to four anglers.

Charters include all tackle, bait, ice, and fish cleaning at the end of the day. Captain Toney also offers fly fishing charters, scalloping trips in season, scenic river tours, birding excursions, and one of Homosassa’s most cherished traditions: a cooked shore lunch on a secluded island using your fresh catch.
